Prerequisites to Purpose

DAY 5 OF 5

Knowledge of God Before Knowledge of Purpose

Devotional

In Caesarea Philippi, Jesus asked His disciples a question that determines the foundation of every purpose journey: “Who do you say that I am?” Before Jesus ever revealed Peter’s assignment, He confronted Peter’s revelation of Him. Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God.” Jesus responded, “You are Peter, and on this rock, I will build…”

Identity flowed from revelation. Assignment flowed from intimacy. Stability flowed from knowledge.

The knowledge of God is not academic—it is experiential. It is the kind of knowledge that transforms the heart, strengthens the will, and shapes obedience. This is why Daniel says, “Those who know their God shall be strong and do exploits.” Exploits (purpose) flow from strength (conviction), and strength flows from knowing God.

Many people struggle with purpose because they try to extract divine assignment without pursuing divine relationship. When trials come, when Satan opposes purpose, when circumstances shake your confidence, only the knowledge of God will keep you from giving up. Without knowing God, purpose becomes fragile. With the knowledge of God, purpose becomes unshakeable.

The more you know Him:

  • The more you understand His patterns.
  • The more you discern His leading.
  • The more you recognize His voice.
  • The more you trust His timing.
  • The more you submit to His will.

Purpose requires revelation. And revelation requires relationship.

Prayer

Father, deepen my knowledge of You. Draw me into intimacy, revelation, and understanding. Let my purpose be anchored in who You are, not in what I can do

About this Plan

Prerequisites to Purpose

Purpose does not begin with talent, ambition, or desire—it begins with God. Before the question of purpose can be answered, Scripture shows a clear prerequisite: encountering God, knowing Him, surrendering to Him, and being transformed into His image. These foundational experiences shape how we understand purpose and protect us from a self-centered interpretation. This 5-day devotional explores the divine pattern that precedes purpose discovery: identity, encounter, brokenness, surrender, and the knowledge of God.
