DAY 2 OF 15

Take a second to think about how you pray. What kinds of things do you talk to God about? What sort of requests do you make? How do you approach God in prayer? Or, maybe more importantly, why do you approach God in prayer? Don’t worry, there’s no guilt trip coming your way next! That’s because we’re all in the same boat! We all tend to approach God with prayers for help, for change, for things that feel like miracles in our own lives. And that’s not bad at all! God wants us to come to Him with all that and more. But Jesus’ response here reminds us that there’s more to our seeking than just that. If we approach God only because of what He can do for us, we’re missing the point. We want to approach God not just for the miracles we need, but because of who He is.

If you remember, Jesus was so impressed when the centurion knew who He was and believed in His power and ability (Luke 7:1-10). It’s the same for us. Jesus wants us to come to Him because we know He is good, that He loves us, and that we trust in His power over our lives. When we do that, we’re getting the whole point. We’re getting the fullness of connection that Jesus’ death on the cross made possible. It’s more than just what we believe He can do for us; it’s about who we think He is. And Jesus loves it when we come to Him and ask Him for what we need, knowing who He is. This week, think about the way you pray. Spend time asking God to help you remember first who He is, and to come to Him with that in mind.

About this Plan

Reveal

The story of Easter really is the story of a miracle. A miracle preceded by many others that all ultimately point us to one thing: the truth of who God is, how God loves us, and the way God is working on our behalf. In this devotional, we’ll look at three major miracles recorded in the gospel of John. As we do, we’ll see that these miracles were all pointing us toward something greater. We’ll see the reveal of the greatest miracle of all: the resurrection of Jesus.
