DAY 6 OF 15

Let’s take a moment to set the scene here. Martha, the woman speaking in this passage, was a good friend of Jesus. She and her sister Mary had prayed faithfully and waited for Him to arrive, hoping that He would heal their brother—and Jesus’ friend—Lazarus. But much to their dismay, Jesus didn’t do what they asked for or expected. He didn’t make it in time, and their beloved brother died. Like most of us, the sisters were distraught at the sight of Jesus finally arriving. Martha let Jesus know precisely how she felt—her anger, questions, frustrations, and grief. But then, she said something that most of us in that moment might not. Despite her feelings and loss, she proclaimed her belief in God. She knew that Jesus could do anything. That even in her grief, she could trust Him to go to God on her behalf, that a miracle was still possible thanks to His power and presence.

Her response is a challenge to us today. In the middle of our own struggles and prayers that aren’t answered the way we hoped, we can not only be honest with God about our feelings, but we can also trust that He is still God, still good, and still able to work in our lives. This week, memorize this short verse and incorporate it into your prayers. Let it remind you of God’s power at work in your life, no matter what.

About this Plan

Reveal

The story of Easter really is the story of a miracle. A miracle preceded by many others that all ultimately point us to one thing: the truth of who God is, how God loves us, and the way God is working on our behalf. In this devotional, we’ll look at three major miracles recorded in the gospel of John. As we do, we’ll see that these miracles were all pointing us toward something greater. We’ll see the reveal of the greatest miracle of all: the resurrection of Jesus.
