As people, it can be difficult for us to receive the gift of eternal life from Jesus. That’s not because we don’t want to receive it but because, in our own human minds, we can’t fathom that there’s nothing we can do to earn it. So much of our lives here on Earth is about earning, doing, and achieving. We work hard for a promotion. We put in the miles to run a race. We store our dollars away to build a bigger payout. We study to get the best grade. We do, do, do in order to earn something in the end. But in God’s economy, things work differently.

All we have to do to receive the gift of Jesus’ life, love, and resurrection is believe in Him. All we have to do to take hold of the new life offered in Him is ask for it, believe it, and receive it in our hearts. This is the outpouring of God’s compassionate love for us. This is what Easter is all about! Spend time in prayer this week, asking God to reveal to you the fullness of His compassion and love for you. Pray that He would open your heart all the more to receive the gift of eternal life in Jesus and to live out His message every day.
