The rally cry
The word ‘discipleship’ can almost do a disservice to what it’s all about. Such a formal, stuffy word. Conjures images of management seminars, manuals or multi-step programs. But discipleship in the Christian life is so far from being hot air or boring. Discipleship is following Jesus with all your heart, mind, soul and strength. I love how 1 Thessalonians cheers us on in discipleship. Writing to believers he finds joy in (3:9), the apostle Paul encourages them to ‘do this even more’ (4:1 NIV). Isn’t that awesome? Being spurred on to do ‘even more’ of striving to live for and please God, in the leading footsteps of the Lord Jesus. Paul repeats his ‘more and more’ rally cry when urging Christians in their love for one another (4:9). Talk about a definition of discipleship to embrace and be inspired by.

About this Plan

“Discipleship is the lifelong process of following Jesus and becoming more like Him.” (Focus Power – Katie Smith). Our relationship with God doesn’t reach its fulfilment at the moment of our salvation - we need to continue learning, following and growing in the ways of Christ. Spend some time learning His ways and try to imitate them in your everyday life.
