Discipleship

DAY 2 OF 5

Focus power

One of the joys of being a Christian is that we share this journey with others! There’s no time or place we’re alone or cannot find encouragement in the one who walks before us.

Discipleship is the lifelong process of following Jesus and becoming more like Him. Our good God, in His kindness, has surrounded each of us with others on the same path – all seeking to be more like Jesus, and I’m so thankful for that!

My boss uses the phrase ‘focus power’ when we’re in a meeting and one of us strays from the important work before us. This reminder to keep our minds on the thing we are all there to do is invaluable.

We all have moments when our attention is distracted from the important work (of discipleship) before us and this is what Hebrews 12 is talking about. We’re in this together. Same goal. Same God.

If you’ve ever watched the Tour de France you’ll know the concentration required to follow the lead rider so you don’t end up a pile on the side of the road. In our journey of discipleship, we have the same task each of the cyclists has – to keep focusing on our leader. And as we follow Jesus, we see His grace, mercy, kindness, patience, love, compassion, strength and so much more – which we learn to have too. So, remember to use your focus power and watch as Jesus, the author (pioneer) and perfector of faith, transforms each one of us to be like Him!

About this Plan

Discipleship

“Discipleship is the lifelong process of following Jesus and becoming more like Him.” (Focus Power – Katie Smith). Our relationship with God doesn’t reach its fulfilment at the moment of our salvation - we need to continue learning, following and growing in the ways of Christ. Spend some time learning His ways and try to imitate them in your everyday life.
