Discipleship

DAY 4 OF 5

A new kind of love

The term ‘love is love’ has exploded in popularity, but not all love is created equal. Not all love is the same. Jesus didn’t just tell His disciples to love – He redefined it. His command wasn’t ordinary affection or kindness; it was a radical, sacrificial love modelled after His own. He loved by serving, forgiving and laying down His life.

That’s the standard He calls us to.

Discipleship isn’t measured by knowledge or titles, but by love in action. When we choose to love others as Christ loves us, we reflect His heart to the world. This love is patient when others fail, generous when it costs us, and steadfast even when it’s hard. It’s not based on convenience or preference – it’s rooted in grace.

In a world marked by division and self-interest, this kind of love stands out. It becomes the evidence of our discipleship. People notice when we forgive quickly, serve humbly and care deeply. Through love, we make Jesus visible. Loving like Jesus isn’t easy, but it’s possible because His Spirit empowers us.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for loving me with a perfect, sacrificial love. Teach me to love others as You have loved me. Help me to forgive freely, serve humbly and show grace generously. Let my life reflect Your heart so that others may see You through me. Strengthen me when it’s hard and remind me that love is the mark of true discipleship. In Your name, Amen.

About this Plan

Discipleship

“Discipleship is the lifelong process of following Jesus and becoming more like Him.” (Focus Power – Katie Smith). Our relationship with God doesn’t reach its fulfilment at the moment of our salvation - we need to continue learning, following and growing in the ways of Christ. Spend some time learning His ways and try to imitate them in your everyday life.
