LEARN FROM ZIPPORAH
Zipporah, whose name actually means "swift," is a fascinating figure who played a super-critical role in Moses's story.
Moses was heading back to Egypt for his big mission when suddenly, "The Lord met him and sought to put him to death." Why? Because Moses hadn't circumcised his son, which was a tremendous deal—a non-negotiable covenant obedience.
Talk about fast thinking! Terrified, Zipporah instantly grabbed a flint knife and performed the circumcision herself. She then uttered the dramatic phrase, "Surely you are a bridegroom of blood to me!" (Exodus 4:25). This lightning-fast action saved Moses's life and got their family back in good standing with God.
What can we learn from her?
- Just Do It: When spiritual trouble hits, you have to act immediately. Don't drag your feet; cut away the sin or disobedience that's causing the issue.
- The Basics Matter: Even though she wasn't an Israelite, Zipporah knew the importance of God's basic commands. It reminds us that upholding the foundational rules is more important than even the "grand mission."
- God Means Business: This whole event proves that God is absolutely holy. He demands faithfulness to His covenant, even from His star player, Moses.
Be a Zipporah! Don't put off that tough thing you know you need to do to get right with God. True protection comes through quick, decisive obedience.
