New Beginnings

DAY 5 OF 5

Our hearts burn within us.

I have always believed that man feels that something is missing until he encounters Jesus. It is at that precise moment that we feel complete and total fulfillment, when our soul and heart encounter their Creator.

There is a passage in the New Testament in which Jesus is on his way to Emmaus after his resurrection and meets some disciples, but they do not recognize him and begin to talk about everything that had recently happened in those places; at the end of the day, Jesus reveals himself to them and disappears, to which they comment: "Did not our hearts burn within us while he talked with us?"

I know there may be many possible explanations for this passage, but today I want to focus on what those men felt as they walked with Jesus and He spoke to them, their hearts burning within them. I believe that is what we feel every day when we are in God's presence and talk to Him.

Some theologians believe that their eyes were opened because of the communion (breaking bread) they had with Jesus, which represents Jesus' closeness, friendship, and love for them and for humanity.

That is what makes the difference in our lives. The communion (relationship and intimacy) we have with Jesus. Our hearts fervently long to be close to Him.

The disciples' hearts burned because of the way Jesus spoke to them. God's word can have this same effect on our hearts, even when we don't know that it is Jesus doing His work in our lives.

Jesus may be right in front of you, walking with you and sitting at the table with you at every meal, and yet your eyes may be blinded. Therefore, we must pray that God will open our eyes to see Jesus as He is, being with us all the time.

I pray that you will encounter Jesus every day and find encouragement and strength to start afresh.

Keep believing.
