What Cannot Be Taken

“For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.” – Colossians 3:3 (NIV)

There are things in life that can be lost. A job, a relationship, a reputation, a season of health. Paul is not pretending otherwise. But he points to something else, something kept in a place that loss cannot reach. Your life, he says, is hidden with Christ in God.

Hidden is a quiet word. It does not mean invisible or unimportant. It means protected, kept somewhere secure, not left exposed where every passing difficulty can rearrange it.

The most essential things about who you are, your standing before God, your belonging, and your future, are held by Christ, and Christ is held by God.

Many of us live as though our identity is sitting in a place that others can access. Approval is granted and withdrawn. Reputation rises and falls. One difficult season can quietly undo what may have taken years to build. The effort of protecting all of that is exhausting, and it is never quite finished.

Paul is not asking you to stop caring about those things. He is asking you to remember which things are actually safe.

The deepest truth about you is not exposed to the shifting circumstances of life. It is held by God, and what God holds, nothing can take.

Prayer

Father, thank You that the most important things about my life are held by You, not left where the world can reach them. Help me live from that security today, rather than spending my energy protecting what is already safe in You. Amen.
