You Have Not Been Left Alone
“I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” –John 14:18 (NIV)
Jesus spoke these words on the night before His death. His disciples did not yet understand everything that was about to happen, but they could sense that something was changing. He was leaving.
Beneath the grief of that moment was a deeper fear, the fear of being left without covering, without direction, without someone ultimately responsible for them.
Jesus answered that fear with a promise. I will not leave you as orphans. An orphan has no one to return to, no one to call when things fall apart, no inherited place or lasting belonging. Jesus looked directly at that fear and answered it. That is not happening. That is not your condition.
Much of what drives ongoing anxiety has something of this same shape. It is the quiet sense that, at the most important level, we are on our own. The outcome of our lives depends entirely on what we manage to hold together. That there is no one above us who is paying attention and who can be trusted with what we cannot control.
Jesus speaks directly into that fear. You are not an orphan. You have a Father who is attentive, a Saviour who intercedes, and a Spirit who remains.
Your place in God’s family does not rest on your performance. It was settled before you earned anything, and it will remain long after your strength gives out.
Prayer
Lord Jesus, thank You for the promise that I am not left alone. When the fear of being on my own rises within me, remind me whose I am. Help me rest today in the belonging You have given me. Amen.

About this Plan

Security is something most of us spend enormous energy chasing, yet it always seems just out of reach. When circumstances shift, the ground beneath us shifts with them. This study invites you to explore a different kind of security, one that does not depend on life going well. Together, we will look at the unchanging character of God and discover the quiet stability that comes from standing on something that cannot move.
