Experiencing Healing Power

DAY 3 OF 4

Breaking through limitations

The healing of the woman with the issue of blood is one of the most commonly preached passages on faith and healing. Although this story appears in more than one Gospel, Mark’s account is my favorite, because it gives us a more detailed perspective on what really happened. I want to draw your attention to three key elements in this story: timing, wasted efforts, and bold faith.

I believe that twelve years is a lot for anyone suffering from an illness. However, in my opinion, for someone who is constantly losing blood, twelve years can be far too long. I wonder how her constant bleeding must have affected her physical health and appearance, leaving her weak and barely able to move. But that’s not all.

According to Leviticus 15, when a woman had a recurrent discharge of blood (one not at the time of her menstrual period), she would be considered unclean for as long as the bleeding continued, being forced to stay isolated from everyone and at risk of death if she broke the Law.

Can you imagine going twelve years without a hug? Without sitting at the table with friends and family or not being able to go to church and worship? Without attending parties, marriages, or funerals? Time has definitely made this woman hopeless, but that was not the only thing.

In another moment of this story, we see that this woman tried every possible way to solve her condition. The passage tells us she spent everything she had in hopes of getting better; however, she only grew worse.

How many times are we just like this woman, trying to fix our problems in our own strength and only to end up frustrated when we fail? Often, we are overwhelmed by frustration because we waste our efforts on things that cannot solve our problems.

After everything that she had been through, there was only one option: to believe. She believed Jesus could heal her, because she said, “If I touch even his garments, I will be made well” (Mark 5:28). That faith came from the certainty that He was not her last hope but her only hope.

Only when we look at her story from this perspective can we understand that her boldness in approaching Jesus in the middle of that crowd was an act of pure faith. After all, she could have been put to death for being in that condition among the people. If touching even a piece of clothing brought healing and restoration to this woman, imagine what you can experience through the Holy Spirit, who raised Jesus from the dead and lives in you.

Know that the healing you are looking for is in Jesus! He’s not your last hope but your only hope. I believe the Lord is inviting you right now to touch Him in faith and experience the supernatural power flowing from Him.

About this Plan

Experiencing Healing Power

It is God's desire that we all experience healing. This is a truth we need to embrace with faith. Throughout Scripture, we read many examples that testify to God's desire for us to walk in the fullness of life. In this Bible plan, we will explore biblical truths and testimonies that increase our faith, enabling us to receive the healing He has already made available to us in Christ Jesus.
