Stepping Into the FutureSample

There is a rock higher than you. Your shoulders, however broad, do not need to bear alone the burden of responsibility for the future of your family, your work, your organization, or your church.

Joshua and the Israelites have just crossed the Jordan River, and they can’t go back. They can’t remain where they are, as there isn’t enough food, so they must move forward. But the only way forward was to defeat Jericho, which seemed impossible. Jericho was securely fortified; no one was going in or out, and the Israelites had no military experience. At that moment, Joshua encounters the commander of the Lord’s army.

God has promised that he would deliver Jericho into their hands. Moving forward was an exercise in trusting God’s promises, believing that when God is present, they would receive the promise. God’s way, marching around Jericho for seven days, wasn’t a routine way. God’s way was effectively an extended act of worship.

God is the Captain, the Commander in Chief, the One who gives the order and then gives us enough strength to live one day at a time. Are we willing to bow down and worship him? Are we prepared to humbly listen and then obey our Commander?

Don’t let pride take over. You will not accomplish your future on your own or with what you have in your pockets. You will accomplish your future with God, who works through you and in you. You will accomplish your future as you individually and in community reconsecrate yourself to God.

Today and every day, you have the privilege of stepping into your future with the ultimate leader–the Commander of the army of the Lord.

Today and every day, you have the privilege to bow your knee and humbly acknowledge God’s holiness, supreme leadership, and promise to be with you and to provide the energy you need for the tasks set before you.

Today and every day, you have the powerful privilege to step into your future through an extended act of worship to the Command of the Lord’s Army who goes with you.

Prayer: Commander of The Lord’s Army, I kneel before you and surrender my will to you. I can’t go backward, I don’t know how to go forward, so lead me in the way I should go. Work the necessary changes in my life so that I can move forward with you. Father, I worship you, my King and my Redeemer. Amen
