While We're Young

You only live once'or as our culture has abbreviated it, 'YOLO'. You hear this phrase everywhere. It's true and rather obvious. You really only do live once. One shot. And if we're being honest with ourselves, we're only given (on average) about 78 years to live. In the grand scheme of things, that's just a dot on the vast timeline of creation. In fact, James 4:14 reminds us that our lives are but a vapor that appears for a little while then vanishes. Not exactly the most encouraging reminder, but a healthy one.

So, we should make the most of it, right? Do whatever we want, whenever we want? Live like there's no tomorrow? Yes, but in the context of our faith. If we truly understand how quick our time is here on Earth, it should compel us to live for Him while we're young, while we're active and living. Now!

And while we're living out our Christ-like faith, we are to be an example to others by what we say, what we do, how we serve and how we love. Ironically, living life in this way isn't popular. But we should not be discouraged. As the lyric of this song states, 'We're gonna go right, when the world goes left'. If we're living in this way, we can avoid looking back on our lives with regret. We can live in a way that sets the course for the rest our lives, in a way that glorifies the Father and inspires those around us. It's never too late. It starts today. YOLO!
