In The Eyes

Growing up is hard. Looking back on my toughest years in junior high and high school, I recall so many moments when I was trying to figure out who I was, even into my college years. It's in those years that we begin to build and create our identity and those years play a crucial role in who we develop into and become later in our lives. Except sometimes I think we build our identity on the wrong foundation. The world tells us lies... so many lies. It tells us how much money we should make, what it takes to be considered 'successful', what we're supposed to look like, what inner circles we should be part of, and how to become completely self sufficient, lacking any need for God to be the centerpiece of all we do and are. More often than not, for some of us, our identity lies in people, careers, and 'things' that aren't from or even related to God. And those identities only last for so long before the foundation is shaken and leveled by circumstances we face. We then question who we are, and we even begin to question our worth.

Growing up I had a habit of finding my identity in relationships I had with boys. I devoted all my time and energy to them and found myself engulfed in several relationships that weren't healthy ones. When we put our worth and identity in people, they will fail us every time. But when we begin to see ourselves through the same lens as the One who created us, that mentality starts to shift, and we become whole again. Our God sees us as His perfect handiwork. We are His treasure. And in HIS eyes, the One who created you, you are perfect and worth more than you'll ever be able to comprehend. What a perfect creation you are!
