Faithful to the Ultimate Coach
Above all else, Dad was faithful to God. That was his foundation. Before he coached others, he prayed. Before he built strategies, he surrendered the plan. Before he spoke direction into anyone else’s life, he sought direction for his own. His faith was not performative. It wasn’t loud or dramatic. It was steady. Quiet. Rooted. He understood something powerful: God was the head coach of his life. That meant he didn’t just move because something looked good. He moved when he felt led. He didn’t panic when circumstances shifted. He trusted the one calling the plays and when the diagnosis came, the kind that shakes families and rewrites futures his faith did not waver. He did not pretend it wasn’t hard. He did not deny reality but he never lost confidence in who was in control. He knew his heavenly coach would either heal him on earth or lead him home to heaven. Either way, he trusted the victory. Watching that kind of faith in anyone changes you. It teaches you that faithfulness isn’t perfection. It’s not getting it right every time. It’s not never feeling fear. Faithfulness is consistency in surrender. It’s waking up and saying, “Lord, you still lead.” It’s trusting God when the scoreboard doesn’t look favorable. It’s staying planted when the game feels long. If you’re reading this, you do not have to have loud faith to have strong faith. You do not have to understand every play to trust the coach. God is not absent in your diagnosis, your disappointment, your unanswered prayer, or your grief. He is present. He is guiding. He is sustaining. Faithfulness is simply showing up and saying, “Lord, I still trust You.” The same God who was faithful yesterday will be faithful to you today. He will walk with you through uncertainty. He will steady you in weakness. He will carry you when your strength runs out if you will allow him. Stay consistent in surrender. Stay anchored in trust. The head coach has not lost control.
Reflection:
Am I trusting God with the whole playbook?
Or am I just trusting the parts of the playbook I understand?
Encouragement:
“Faith is steady even when circumstances are not.” Trust your heavenly playbook.
Prayer:
Lord,
I thank You for the examples in the Bible of unwavering faith, men and women who trusted You when the outcome didn’t make sense, when the promise was delayed, when the fire was hot, and when the prison doors did not open immediately. Their stories remind us that faith is not built on favorable results but on an unchanging God. Teach us that we can trust You even when we don’t like the result. Even when the diagnosis isn’t reversed. Even when the door doesn’t open. Even when the prayer is answered differently than we hoped. When life feels uncertain and unstable, remind us that You are steady. When emotions rise and questions surface, remind us that You are sovereign. You are not surprised nor uncertain about our future. Help us surrender outcomes to You. Not just the small ones but the big ones. The timelines. The healing. The relationships. Replace doubt with remembrance of Your faithfulness. When our minds drift toward worst-case scenarios, pull us back to truth. In Jesus name,
Amen
