Why We Don't Live in God's Design
It seems so obvious, doesn't it? If I want to get the best out of my car, I should use it as it was designed. Cars make great transportation devices. They make terrible submarines.
Yet every day, we choose to operate outside of the way God designed us. This is the heart of sin. It is just as silly a decision as taking your new Tesla for a dip in the Potomac, and yet we do it every single day. Why?
You will see in today's scripture that sin does not always look as disastrous as it actually is. In fact, it can look more logical, appealing, or even fun than God's design. Typically, you see sin's payoff immediately, and the price tag comes later. With God's design, you often feel the cost first, and then enjoy a lifelong payoff of peace and the beauty of living as you were made to live.
Questions to pray on:
- Think of a pattern of sin in your life. Does it feel obviously destructive, or does it feel logical and appealing in the moment? What does that tell you?
- Where are you currently collecting a payoff from something that will cost you later?
- What makes God's design feel less appealing than the alternative, even when you know better?
