Now that you have become sons of light, darkness looms large. How does it loom large? I was sent the following forward of an episode between Truth and Lie personified. 

Approaching a river, Lie tells Truth, “The water is perfect for a swim. Let’s take a dip.” Truth is suspicious of Lie. He tests the water and realises that it is indeed perfect for a swim. The two of them undress and plunge into the water. Lie sneakily comes out. Puts on the clothes of Truth and runs away. Truth comes out of the well furious. The world, seeing Truth naked, turns away from it with contempt and rage, while Truth tries to defend itself. Ever since, Lie travels around the world dressed as Truth. 

The story while funny, is quite perceptive in gauging the current state of affairs of people and society. Today’s passage warns us precisely of the many attempts that Lie will make to lead us back to darkness. Yesterday we were blessed with the light and the immense possibilities of living life to the fullest. But today, quickly, we are warned. 

We are the fruit of our Lord’s light, so let us be found in what is good, right and true. We are not pressured to do what is good, right and true. Instead we are called to be in it. When we are in it we are no longer acting it out, we are living it out. 

While we are living it out there will be challenges. That is why we need the truth to test and discern lies. We need goodness to expose the bad. So the right thing to do is to awake from being dull due to sin. Arise from feeling dead. And let Christ shine on you.
