Made for the Middle by Micahn Carter预览

Am I the only one or has anyone else noticed that our world is slowly making it all about us? Selfies are at an all-time high, social “ME”-dia is taking over our lives, and all of a sudden everyone has a platform to talk about how they feel. We are slowly becoming more competitive and more entitled. It’s as if we are now living to one-up everyone around us. 

Hours are spent searching and resourcing us on how to outperform the competition. We desire better brands, bigger platforms, and more followers, so we seize every opportunity to get to it first.

Unfortunately, we don't see the leaders in the Bible leading that way. In Joshua chapter 3, we see the priest, who usually would be first do something different,  become last. Their mission was to stay IN THE MIDDLE of the Jordan river until everyone crossed over to the promised land (Joshua 3:17). I’m pretty sure they thought they would see the promised land first. They had heard about it for 40 years, and every other day they were first in line, but not this time. 

What they did wasn’t glamorous, it didn’t get them more likes, and it surely didn’t help their brand. What it did do was help people. This is what Jesus was talking about when He said I didn’t come to be served, I came to serve (Mark 10:45). Or when he told the disciples that among them it would be different. Whoever wanted to be the greatest must become the least (Matthew 20:26).

Today our culture is a long way away from those teachings, but people who are Made for the Middle understand our role. We know it is not about our agenda, preference, or position... It’s about people. So we commit to stay in the middle just like Jesus did for us no matter how it makes us feel. 

Something to think about: Today try to make it a little less about you; in doing so you’ll become a little more like Him.
