Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "A Place of Power"Sample
The story of the Israelites going out of Egypt is filled with miraculous signs, as witnessed by Pharaoh and his people. The Israelites experienced firsthand miracles, signs, and the mighty power of God as God freed them after 400 years of slavery in Egypt. Under the leadership of Moses, the Israelites walked on dry land as they crossed over the Red Sea. God provided for them abundantly along their journey to the Promised Land.
It is quite odd to see the Israelites, a nation who had experienced God’s power, become rebellious towards God. They grumbled a lot. They spoke against God and against Moses and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!” (Numbers 21:5 NIV)
One day, their stubbornness upset God, and God punished them for it. What happened? The Lord sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. (Numbers 21:6 NIV) Realizing that they had sinned against God, they asked Moses to pray to God and plead for God’s forgiveness. So, Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, they lived. (Numbers 21:9 NIV)
Sin distances us from God. Whenever we realize that we’ve sinned, we need to go back to God, shift our focus to God, and ask for His forgiveness.
Prayer is a way to restore the condition of our hearts in God. Prayer is the best means to honestly seek God’s forgiveness for every mistake we make. Prayer brings our focus back to God, and from there, we can even pray for others around us.
Devotion for Parents
In a marriage, we may hurt our spouse unintentionally. In a family, we may also hurt our children even when we don’t mean to. It could be because of what we said or did (or didn’t do).
When we come to realize our mistake, it is important to come to God and ask for forgiveness. Also, go to the family member that we’ve hurt and apologize.
This is what it means to shift our focus back on God and His Truth.
Devotion for Kids
Do you know that God wants and can use you to pray for the goodness of other people? Before He does that, make sure that you have the right focus on God, ask for God’s forgiveness for every mistake you have made, and always look to Him.
Start praying for others with a simple prayer, such as “Dear God, I want to forgive my friend who mocked me. Please forgive him too.” That’s not too complicated. No prayer is difficult. The question is, are you willing to pray?
Family Devotion Time
Make this year the year that God uses your family to be close to Him through your prayers.
You can even pray intercession prayer for others around you.
Remember always to keep your eyes upon the Lord and let Him cleanse you of the sins that put a distance between you and God.
