DAY 5 OF 8

Day 5: Wearing Your Power Lightly

“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:6)

There’s a profound distinction between being powerful and being overbearing, between self-confidence and arrogance, between knowing your worth and demanding that others acknowledge it. “Wearing your power lightly” means exercising deep influence without having to raise your voice to assert authority. A queen who carries her power with grace knows she’s been called and crowned by God; she doesn’t need constant external validation.

Proverbs 31:25 captures this attitude perfectly: “She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come.” She doesn’t have to strive ceaselessly to acquire this strength or dignity—they’re an intrinsic part of her spiritual “wardrobe.” Yet in our everyday lives, we often feel compelled to speak more loudly just to be noticed, especially in arenas traditionally dominated by men. True strength, however, isn’t found in the noise we make; it’s evident when our presence communicates confidence, peace, and assurance. A woman who knows she has a guaranteed seat “in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 2:6) isn’t afraid of being overlooked or diminished.

Another key aspect is “intentional kindness.” Society sometimes labels gentle women as weak or passive, yet genuine kindness is a deliberate choice that requires self-control and courage. It's power under control—choosing good, even when reacting with harshness or indifference, would be easier. In this sense, Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that the tongue wields the power of life and death: our words can either elevate or destroy. A queen, therefore, chooses her words wisely, fully aware of her God-given authority yet using it with gentleness, never flaunting it.

Jesus Himself is the perfect model of authority carried with humility. Though He was the King of kings, He chose to serve. He never resorted to competition or shouting to prove His worth; His life shows us that genuine power can walk hand in hand with meekness and unconditional love.

Practical Tips for Wearing Your Power Lightly:

  • Observe Your “Power Style”
    • Ask yourself how you respond when you feel overlooked or undervalued: do you tend to downplay your abilities, or do you make a lot of “noise”?
    • Reflect on your behavior when your authority is challenged: do you over-defend yourself, or do you remain calm, trusting that God Himself affirms your worth?
  • Balance Humility and Confidence
    • Before speaking in a meeting or making a major decision, remind yourself: “My voice matters, but I don’t need to shout to be heard.”
    • If you feel an urge to “prove” your worth, pause and pray: is it your ego talking, or are you truly serving a greater purpose?
  • Practice Intentional Kindness
    • Pinpoint situations where it’s hardest for you to be kind (perhaps you’re afraid of appearing weak or not being taken seriously).
    • Consciously choose to respond with patience and goodwill, remembering that a queen does not lose her authority by treating others with respect. In fact, doing so often increases her credibility.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for granting me a position of authority with Christ in the heavenly realms. Help me understand that my worth doesn’t depend on the noise I make or the approval I receive, but on the dignity You’ve given me. Teach me to wear my power with humility and kindness, without relinquishing the steadfastness that comes from Your truth. May my words and actions reflect Your character. Amen.
