Alive and on Fire - a Video Devo With Illusionist, Dustin TavellaSample

If there’s one thing that quietly kills our passion and focus for Jesus, it’s distraction.
And in today’s world? Distractions are everywhere.
We carry the entire world in our back pocket—literally. Between phones, social media, Netflix, school, work, sports, and a dozen other things, we stay constantly busy and endlessly stimulated.
But here’s the truth:
More stuff doesn’t lead to more satisfaction.
Usually, it leads to more noise, more pressure, more emptiness—and a whole lot less Jesus.
We say we want more of God in our lives, but we’ve crowded Him out. We’ve packed our schedules, our minds, and our hearts so full that there’s hardly space for Him to speak—let alone be heard.
A Real-Life Example:
Picture this:
You buy a beautiful new couch for your already cluttered room. But instead of making space for it, you just shove it on top of the old couch. Now the room’s a mess and it full. You can’t even enjoy the new one because the space is too cluttered.
That’s what it’s like when we try to “fit” Jesus into our already overflowing lives.
If we want more of Jesus, we have to make room.
And making room sometimes means letting go.
The Hard Truth:
Saying “yes” to Jesus often means saying “no” to other things.
Not because those things are all bad—but because they’re getting in the way.
So ask yourself:
- What’s filling up your time, your thoughts, your energy?
- What’s distracting you from a real connection with God?
- What are you afraid to give up?
Jesus isn’t asking you to add Him to your to-do list.
He’s asking you to re-center your life around Him.
And when you do?
You’ll find a connection that brings peace, life, joy, and clarity in a way nothing else can.
Take the Challenge:
- Turn off your notifications for a while.
- Spend 10 minutes today with zero noise—just you and God.
- Ask Him to show you what needs to go so He can move in more deeply.
- Write down what distracts you most and pray over it.
- Make space—and protect that space.
Prayer You Can Pray:
God, I’ve filled my life with so many things—some good, some not—but I know I need more of You. Help me quiet the noise and clear out anything that’s taking Your place. I don’t want to squeeze You into the margins anymore. I want You to be at the center. Give me the courage to let go of what doesn’t matter, and the wisdom to stay connected to what does. Amen.
Bottom Line:
If your life feels overcrowded, maybe it’s time to clean house.
Make space. Be still.
Jesus doesn’t want to compete for your attention—He wants your heart.
