Peace in the StormSample

He Gives Wisdom
James is talking to believers who were under pressure, going through trials, and trying to figure out how to live faithfully. He tells them something simple but powerful: “If you don’t know what to do, ask God.”
Here’s the beauty of this verse — God doesn’t just have wisdom, He is wisdom. And He’s not stingy with it. James says He gives generously and without finding fault. That means you don’t have to approach Him ashamed, thinking you should already know the answer. God won’t roll His eyes or punish you for asking. He delights in giving direction.
But notice the condition: you have to ask. Too often, we lean on our own understanding, Google our way through problems, talk to ChatGPT or poll our friends for advice before we pray. James is reminding us that divine wisdom is available, but it must be sought from the Source.
God never shames us for not knowing what to do—He invites us to ask. Wisdom is more than knowledge; it’s knowing God’s way for the situation. He gives it generously when we ask in faith.
I’ve prayed for wisdom in decisions where I felt stuck. Every time, God guided me through His Word, wise counsel, or a deep sense of peace. He never failed to answer. Nothing will ever catch God by surprise. Embrace the wisdom of God and the wisdom He gives those around you.
Don’t be afraid to admit when you don’t know — that’s your invitation to ask. Bring one decision before Him today. Pray: “Lord, give me Your wisdom here.” Write down what He impresses on your heart. God’s wisdom is greater than your logic, your feelings, or your limited perspective. Make asking for wisdom a daily rhythm, not a last resort.
