You Need a New Owner.

If the problem was never just your behaviour, then the gospel is far better news than you may have been told.

Yesterday, we faced it: we were not free people making poor choices, we were slaves acting out of our captivity. So what did Jesus do about that? Here is where many of us have shrunk the gospel down too small. We say Jesus died for our sins, meaning the wrong things we have done, and that is gloriously true. But He went further than dealing with the things we did. He dealt with the thing we were.

Paul says that God made Him who knew no sin to become sin for us. Sit with that. Jesus did not only carry your mistakes. On the cross, He took on the whole slave-master, the entire condition we were born into, and He put it to death. Then He rose, not as a forgiven sinner, but as a righteous Son. And He brought you up with Him.

This is what changes everything. You were not handed a self-improvement plan. You were transferred. Paul says God rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of His Son. You changed ownership. The old you, the one who belonged to sin, was crucified with Christ, and a slave who has died is free from his master.

So you do not have to manufacture a new you through sheer effort. There already is a new you, bought and raised in Christ. The Christian life is not becoming someone you are not. It is learning to live as the person you already are.

And yet, if that is true, why do so many of us still feel bound? Tomorrow, we name the strange gap between what is true of us and how we still live.

REFLECTION

Have you been trying to become a new person when in Christ, you have already been made one?

Say this over yourself today: "The old me died with Christ. I belong to Him now." Notice how differently you face temptation when you start from that.

PRAYER

Father, thank You that You did not hand me a to-do list. You handed me a new life. Thank You that I have changed kingdoms and changed owners. Help me live today as the person Jesus already made me. Amen.
