Harnessing the Wind: Covenant Mission Priorities That Guide and Support You

The Holy Spirit is continually moving, inviting us to harness its wind and step into meaningful action. As followers of Christ in the Evangelical Covenant Church, we live out God’s mission through what we call our “mission priorities.” These priorities guide everything we do as a denomination. The mission priorities are to Make and Deepen Disciples, Love Mercy Do Justice, Start and Strengthen Churches, Serve Globally, and Serve Clergy. Together, they aim to provide clear ways to make a difference in the world around us. Those priorities are organized into three categories that outline how we serve our communities and the world.

Serve Locally equips us to show the love of Christ in practical ways. Your community is full of opportunities to extend compassion, whether through feeding the hungry, offering a listening ear, or reaching out to someone in need.

Serve Globally invites us to broaden our perspective. The world is interconnected, and God’s love reaches every corner. We join the global Church through global partnerships and sending global personnel "from everywhere to everywhere" to engage in God’s mission across cultures and around the world.

You can support global personnel and global partnerships through prayer or financial support. Take time to learn about the global personnel and global partnerships your church supports. Make space to learn about, listen to, and engage with a community different from yours.

Serve Clergy encourages and supports our spiritual leaders. You can support your pastor(s) through prayer, offering words of encouragement, or serving in church ministries. Your role in supporting your leaders is critical to the health and growth of your church community.

These priorities invite us to engage in God’s mission near and far. With the Holy Spirit’s guidance, we can make an impact locally, globally, and in the lives of those who lead and serve.

Prayer

God, thank you for guiding me to serve where you have placed me. Help me to open my heart to the needs of my community and the world. Give me the strength to support those who lead and the courage to step into your mission with justice and care. Amen.

Reach Your Neighbor

Look for one way to serve someone in your local community. It might be as simple as checking in on someone or offering to help someone in need. Also, pray for global missions, seek what you feel connected to, and find out how to support the work. Finally, take a moment to send a note of encouragement to your pastor or a church leader who has impacted your life. Let the Spirit lead you as you live out God’s mission in your daily life.
