New Wind for the Next Generation: A Legacy to Empower Youth and Families
“A legacy is not what you leave when you die; it’s what you leave when you leave the room.”
These words from Peter Strople remind us that legacy is created in the small, everyday moments. Young or old, each of us plays a role in shaping the future. For older people, it means intentionally investing in the next generation by mentoring, praying for, and encouraging them to step into their gifts. Young people are also called to be part of this as active community participants, using their unique gifts and energy to build the church today.
Each of us can create a legacy by how we live now, showing kindness to others, serving in our church or community, and seeking God’s guidance in our decisions. Legacy is not about waiting for a future moment but about embracing who you are in Christ right now. As we engage with our faith, we can inspire others and strengthen the church. The Holy Spirit empowers both the young and the old to make a difference, creating a legacy of faith, love, service, care, and justice that can be felt for generations to come.
We are all called to work together, empowering one another. The legacy we build today through prayer, discipleship, and acts of love carries forward into the future. Whether you are passing down faith or actively shaping it, the Spirit is at work through you, helping to build a thriving community of Christ’s followers that will have an impact for years.
Response Questions
- If you are older, how can you invest in the younger generation around you through prayer, mentorship, and encouragement? If you are younger, how can you use your gifts today to build a legacy of faith in your community?
- How can both the young and old work together to strengthen the church and grow in their faith?
- How can you create space for the Holy Spirit to lead you in building a legacy of love, service, and discipleship in your family, church, or community?
Prayer
God, thank you for calling all of us, both young and old, to participate in building a legacy that honors you. Give me the wisdom and courage to invest in others and to use my gifts, no matter my age, to further the family of God. Empower us as a community to support one another, and may your Spirit guide us in everything we do. Amen.
Reach Your Neighbor
Find a way you can invest in the lives of others. If you are younger, consider how you can serve someone or share your faith with friends. If you are older, look for ways to encourage or mentor a younger person in your church or community. Legacy is built through relationships. Let the Holy Spirit guide you as you build lasting connections that will impact future generations.
