A Mighty Rushing Wind: The Same Wind That Swept Through the Hearts of Our Founders

The Evangelical Covenant Church was born out of a movement of people inspired by the Holy Spirit. This powerful, mighty, rushing wind swept through their hearts and ignited their passion for discipleship and service. The same Holy Spirit that empowered our founders continues to move among us today. God is living, and God is active. The Holy Spirit is inviting us, individually and as a community, to share in God’s continued mission. The Spirit calls us to engage with the world around us, make disciples, and build a more caring and just world.

The Holy Spirit is not bound by time or place. Just as the Spirit stirred the hearts of our founders, who called themselves mission friends, the Spirit is stirring in us now, reminding us that we are called to continue in the mission. We are part of the same movement, guided by the same mighty rushing wind of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit leads us forward with courage and empowers us to share the good news, love our neighbors, and pursue justice in a world that longs for hope and transformation.

As we lean into the power of the Holy Spirit, we find strength beyond our abilities. The Spirit equips us to go past our comfort zone and empowers us to be bold witnesses for Christ. The same wind that brought life and direction to the early church is available to each of us today. Let us trust in the Spirit’s leading, knowing that with this power, we are equipped to fulfill the mission of the church with love, grace, and conviction.
