Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "First Things First"Exemplo
“My parents don’t listen to me!”
As parents, how often do we hear these words?
As children, how often do we say them?
Listen – a word familiar to the ears, but difficult to do. Most of us simply catch the sound that enters our ears without paying proper attention. That is not listening. When we listen, we make sure to understand the message our partner is trying to deliver. To be able to listen properly, we need to concentrate, give our full attention, and have willingness that’s from the heart.
God wants us, both parents and children, to be good listeners. Make sure that we understand the message and respond well to what we hear. Even though the above verse is addressed to children, it applies to adults too.
Devotion for Parents
Usually, as parents, whether intentionally or not, we impose our will upon our children because we think we know what’s best for them and we have more experiences. We often forget that our children are whole people, who have their views, preferences, and will.
Can we accept the different views and choices that our children make? How do we respond to them and what are the important values that we must hold on to as the most fundamental principle?
Devotion for Kids
Yes, our parents have more knowledge than us. They also want what’s best for us. We have to obey them because that’s what the Bible says. However, we are allowed to voice our opinions so that our parents can understand us more. Do it properly and respectfully.
When our opinions differ from our parent’s, that’s when we have to follow what the Word tells us, which is to respect and obey our parents, while still praying for them so that one day they will understand what we mean.
Family Devotion Time
Listen to one another, not just today, but daily.
Many parents refuse to listen to their children, and vice versa.
Let’s learn to listen and respect one another.
