Bits And PiecesSample
I was checking the current sales on the digital network for my console of choice the other day, when I came across this little gem that was just PERFECT for an author! In this game, your main character’s avatar consists of the letters “H-E-R-O.” It’s a cute little stick figure who traverses a digital world full of darkness and chaos.
The goal of this game is to solve little word puzzles in order to get past all the obstacles that stand in your way. For example, there is this one part where a giant monster consisting of the letters “G-O-R-G-E” is blocking your path. In order to bypass him you must find a letter “D” nearby, push it onto the end of “G-O-R-G-E,” thereby forming the word “G-O-R-G-E-D.” The beast is now “full” and will allow you to pass.
This game served to remind me of one of the greatest truth’s in the walk of life. The power of our words is IMMENSE. According to today’s Bible verse, our words contain the power of life and death! The Bible is FULL of verses on how our words affect our lives. One of the most famous pieces of “wordly wisdom” is found in James 3:1-12. Now would be a GREAT time to review those verses if you haven’t in a while. Words are so powerful, that they even form the foundational beginning of our faith in Christ! (Romans 10:9 – “If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”)
Declaring our faith in Christ is just the beginning, however. According to God, faith without works is DEAD! (James 2:14-26.)
So. Let us examine ourselves to see if our words are matching up with God’s desire for our lives. If we haven’t already, let’s give our lives over to the care of Christ, and devote our lives to serving him with our whole beings. Let us talk the talk AND walk the walk, from this point forward and on into Eternity.
About this Plan
It is my hope that you put down the controller and pick up your Bible. It is vital for us to broaden our horizons in life. This is especially true for gamers, who have a high tendency to be more isolated than most people. This devotional should help you be more aware of the spiritual lessons contained in a lot of the games we play. Praise be to God!
