  I was blessed to play an amazing game this past Christmas season. It was so good, and so full of spiritual lessons, that I couldn’t bring myself to put it down. The main protagonist in this game was a prince on a road trip with his three closest friends—destination: Royal wedding.    

     During the course of this game, disaster struck, war began anew, and lives were lost. The Princely Protagonist also found out a very important part about his role in the whole adventure. It was his destiny to lay down his life in order to save the entire world from destruction. His friends stood by him every step of the way, and in the end—he gave his life willingly, so that life could go on for everyone else.    

     I don’t know if the people who wrote the story-line for this game ever read the Bible, but it gave me chills as I watched this epic tale unfold. The Biblical parallels were awe inspiring and brought tears to my eyes on numerous occasions. If I had to pick one word to define this game, it would be this—sacrifice.    

     It amazed me how the main character in this game sacrificed himself in a similar way that Jesus Christ did—for the good of the many. We, as Christians, are also called to a life of sacrifice. That is clearly evident from today’s Bible verse. Although we most likely will not be required to actually give our lives the same way Jesus did, we ARE responsible to continually “sacrifice” ourselves on a daily basis. We do this by constantly striving to shed our selfish nature—by giving. We give of our time, our resources, our wisdom, our worship, etc.    

     So, let us strive to think of other’s needs before our own. Let us look beyond our own problems and love our neighbors in their struggles. Let us give the ultimate sacrifice and walk in the unselfish nature of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
