The Military And Your MarriageSample
Priority: Communication When Deployed
Devotional Content:
In this video, Mike and Lisa talk about the importance of being very intentional about communication during times of separation or deployment. Of course, there are the obvious challenges that come with distance and different time zones. Being aware of how these play our for each spouse is important. Finding a good app where you can share notes with each other is a big help. One of the things that I really like that Mike and Lisa did was being very purposeful about growing their marriage during Mike’s deployment. They asked good questions and kept a dialogue going. Most couples struggle with miscommunication at some level but when apart. Avoiding miscommunication as much as possible helps a couple stay connected. Here are some of the points they made:
- Think through what you are going to say ahead of time as much as possible.
- Consider what is happening in each other’s worlds when communicating.
- Accept what the other says as reality.
- Don’t take each other for granted.
By being intentional with communication during these times, your marriage can actually grow and you can be more connected.
Today’s Challenge:
Talk together about what being intentional in your communication during deployment or time apart needs to look like for the two of you.
Going Deeper:
What steps can you take while apart to intentionally not take each other for granted?
