The Military And Your MarriageSample

Priority: Empathy
Devotional Content:
Empathy is walking in someone else’s shoes or asking yourself what a situation looks like from another’s perspective. Showing empathy for each other while apart is essential. Lisa is very intentional about understanding what Mike’s deployment looks like and what his role is during this time. This helps her understand as best she can the everyday experiences Mike is having. Mike constantly asks Lisa to walk him through her day. It keeps him connected to her and what she is doing day after day. I especially like what Mike is saying when he says that he believes the spouse at home has the tougher job of the two. Mike and Lisa also talk about showing value to each other through honoring their marriage vows and covenant.
Today’s Challenge:
Discuss ways that you can show empathy for each other during times apart.
Going Deeper:
What can you do to show your spouse how much you value them while away?
