The Military And Your MarriageSample
Priority: Expectations
Devotional Content:
Today Mike and Lisa discuss expectations, which is a topic that can make or break a couple during those times apart. Mike shares that he wants Lisa to be very open with him about things going on at home when he is gone. Videos, pics, and texts help him feel a part of the life he is missing. For Lisa, Mike listening well to her in an expectation prevents many problems and issues. As far as unrealistic expectations, Mike says that it is important for those away to initiate staying connected to their spouse and family. Life goes on for everyone and is not put on hold just because someone is gone. Lisa feels it is important for a wife to not expect too much from a spouse who may literally be on the other side of the world. They cannot always be available and they cannot fix things long distance. The key to expectations for both is flexibility.
Today’s Challenge:
Share your expectations for each other during times apart.
Going Deeper:
Talk about unrealistic expectations during these times and how you can deal with them together.
