"Sexodus" Relationships DevotionalSample

Don't Go Near
What does the Bible say about flirting, getting closer and closer to a line you shouldn't cross? These passages make it clear: don't even go NEAR the door of the adulteress. In other words, the man didn't make the mistake when we slept with the woman, he made the mistake when he even allowed himself to walk down the street near her house. If you want a marriage unlike any other, you're going to have to do what no one else is doing. In a society that by and large accepts hanging out with the opposite gender even though you're married, watching programs & movies with questionable content, and the ease of communication, this can be a difficult task. But these Proverbs serve as a warning to us: don't let everything you've prepared for and worked hard for slip away because you didn't create boundaries & keep each other accountable to them.
Talk with your future spouse about what boundaries you'll have in your marriage - things like not texting/chatting with the opposite gender, not riding alone in cars with the opposite gender, and whatever others may apply to your situation. Dealing with these things now will save heartache later.
