TRUSTING IN GOD WHEN YOU ARE AFRAID KEEPS YOU SAFE
"When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don't throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer." Corrie Ten Boom
PRAY: Dear God, I thank You for these reminders that I can't trust in humans, and I can't even trust in our leaders or our government for refuge, for safety, for security, or in times of trouble. I just need to always trust in You. When I'm afraid or in a situation I don't know how to get out of, I can call out to You God, I can know that because I trust in You that You are there for me. I know that having a fear of man will prove to be a snare, but if I trust in You I will be kept safe. Thank You God, that You are good, You are a refuge in times of trouble, and thank You that You care for me as I trust in You. What a comfort and a joy. I pray in the name of Jesus. Amen.
REFLECT: In a spiritual sense, we can understand that we need to trust in God. But there are times when we are afraid for our safety and it's frightening to feel alone and vulnerable. Those are the times when we also need to put our trust in God, who is our fortress and our strength. We trust our lives to God when we become a Christian. But when we're walking down a dark street and hear strange footsteps behind us, is He the first one we call out to? When our plane starts shaking in mid air, is it our first instinct to pray to God for help? When our child is sick, do we think to call out to Jesus and then call friends to pray? It's in the little things that reveal our trust in God. When we're afraid or in a time of deep trouble, we have to put on the armor of God, call on Him as our deliverer, and hide in the shadow of His wings. When we instinctively do that, then God will open up doors for the big things! Remember, "He cares for those who trust in Him!"
ACT: Look back on last week and try to recall any times that you were afraid, unsure, confused, overwhelmed, or even indecisive. Did you turn to God first? Did you trust Him to get you through that moment, that decision, or that experience? If so, then praise Him that you instinctively trusted in Him, and feel confident that you will continue to do that in the future. If not, then define what your default response was and start to identify where your trust is and how you need to change it to God! We often develop habits that need to be broken, and trusting in yourself or in other people is often a difficult habit that needs to be broken. This is the time to realize that you need to trust God in the little things and make that a habit before expecting Him to give you bigger things. Remember to add more promises to your list: hint - look at each day's scriptures!
About this Plan
This is a joyful week, full of promises, rewards, and hope. We’ll learn that when we can truly trust the Lord, and not lean on our own understanding, He has gifts that He gives to us in return. It is so important to the Lord when we let go and trust Him, looking to Him, not to others, for our strength and direction. Then He can shower us with blessings!
