GOD CARES THAT WE TRUST IN HIM ONLY

PRAY:  Father in Heaven, help me to more fully understand the difference between what man creates and what You create. I know that there is no value in an idol or image carved by a craftsman for a man-made idol who can not speak. But when You put a new song or a hymn of praise in my mouth, many will see, hear, and fear You, and put their trust in You. Oh, blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord. Help me to not look to the proud and to those who turn aside to false gods. Let me not idolize the creative people in Hollywood who are rich and famous because of their work, or their looks, or their money. Man should not get the glory for creative works. They are to trust in You and give You the glory. Help me to fully understand this, Lord. Amen

REFLECT:  These are very insightful verses to help us understand why we shouldn't idolize any person, or any creative work that a person does. We often look up to movie stars, directors, producers, writers, and animators, almost as gods. And yet these verses remind us that "blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods." There are many solid, humble Christians in Hollywood, but there are also those who don't yet know God and so they give themselves credit for the creative and entertaining work they have gotten famous for doing. Think of the eternal difference we could make if we prayed for those people to realize that God is the source of all creation, and that they would trust Him as their source of creativity, and in doing so, would find an amazing increase of joy and satisfaction in their work. He will put a new song in their hearts and bless them and you!

ACT:   Choose one creative person in Hollywood whom you look up to, follow his or her work, and would spend money to meet or watch perform. Then start praying for that person. Ask the Lord to help them to trust Him, to give the glory to Him for all of their creative accomplishments, and for the Lord to take away any pride. Also, pray that other people don't idolize this person and make him or her more important than God. We don't want to be worshiping false gods and we don't want people idolized. Pray that both the Hollywood professional you admire, and their fans, will trust in God for their gifts, talents, accomplishments, fame, money, and love. As Christians, we want to put God first and pray for others to do the same.
