Folk & Field | A Musical Study on Community & the Kingdom of God

DAY 1 OF 9

BULLET HAND

Lyrics:
I was a poor man, born with a bullet hand
And I was a bad man, a bad bad man
(bullet hand, bad bad man)

I robbed a stagecoach blind, every nickel and dime
And I didn’t do no time, I didn’t do no time
(bullet hand, bad bad man)

And you say “it ain’t right, stealing like I do”
And I say “it ain’t right, but wouldn’t you
if you were a poor man too?”

Now I’m a rich man, still got a bullet hand
And I done (just) killed a man
(bullet hand, killed a man)

Now here comes the Law Man,
warrant in his hand,
says I’m a wanted man
(bullet hand, wanted man)

And you say “it ain’t right, stealing like I do”
And I say “it ain’t right, but wouldn’t you
if you were a bad man too?”

Bullet hand, bad heart

He pulled his gun on me, I fired back with three
Then turned my horse to flee,
(bullet hand, bad bad / runnin’ man)

No hope of arrest, he aimed his rifle at my chest
Put my heart to rest
(bullet hand, dead dead man)

Bullet hand, bad heart

Now I’m a dead man
Because of my bullet hand
I am every man man

Themes: Sin, Darkness, & Death.

Thoughts to consider as you listen and read through this study: This song highlights the sinfulness of the human heart; how we are sinful from birth, and how we need to really realize this before we can truly appreciate the good news of the gospel. This song also helps to set up the trajectory of this concept album. This whole album is about the community and family of God’s kingdom, and this first song reminds us of who and what we are without the grace of God.

Day 2

About this Plan

Folk & Field | A Musical Study on Community & the Kingdom of God

The Christian gospel is about a Holy Triune God making his home amongst a holy people in a renewed and redeemed creation. Jesus is all about folk and field. In this musical 10-day study from Garden City, you will follow the story of man once alone in sin and bad company. It tracks his journey into God's family on earth and in the kingdom yet to come.
