GO2020 | ENGAGE: May Week 2 - GOSample
May 13—God’s Hero: Mary of Bethany
Read
John 12:3-8
Reflect
Our hero, Mary of Bethany, expressed her heroism in an extravagant way. She took a perfumed ointment worth 300 days wages (at $15.00/hour, that would be $36,000!) and poured it on the feet of Jesus to anoint him ahead of his death. What she did showed lavish love for her Lord. She didn’t seem to think twice about anything else that could have been done with the value of the ointment. She was highly criticized by Judas, but Jesus could see right through his motives. What do you think Mary was expressing in her overwhelming display toward Jesus?
Engage
Read today’s Scripture passage. Say or write it out in your own words, considering the following questions:
· What does it say about God?
· What does it say about us?
· Is there a promise to trust?
· Is there a command to obey?
· How will I apply this Scripture to my life?
· Who will I show that I care by sharing this truth?
Memorize
Now read this week’s memory verse, Mark 1:15. Spend a few minutes working to memorize it.

About this Plan
Let's focus on heroes of the faith who model for us what it looks like to “go!” These heroes were ordinary folks like us. They had a burning message of hope for their generation. Some suffered; some struggled; some were young; some were older; but all of them shared the hope that God had given them.
