Jesus is SupremeSample
Counting the cost of following Christ is only the beginning. After we start walking, we must learn how to do life with humility.
Now, make sure you know that acting in humility is not the same thing as getting humiliated.
The great C.S. Lewis said, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, it’s thinking of yourself less.” When you come to the understanding that Jesus truly is supreme to all else, you start finding ways to act in humility by serving those around you.
Jesus talks about this on many occasions in the Bible, but Jesus makes it extremely clear in Matthew 20:26 when He says, “Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant.”
Chances are, you probably have some sort of desire within you to be great. Great at a sport, great in school, great at your job. Jesus makes it clear that in order to be great in God’s eyes, we have to learn how to serve. Jesus put this principle into action, as we see in John 13, when He decided to wash His disciples’ feet.
What does serving look like for you today?
The world tells us to gain as much as we can for ourselves and once we hit billionaire status, that’s when we have achieved greatness. God rewrites the story. In His eyes, we are great when we humble ourselves to the point of serving those around us. This is where we will find fulfillment, honor, and joy.
