River Valley Church SOAP - Part 10Sample

Ancient Israel had three categories of ministers: the priests, the prophets and the sages or “wise men”, who were especially gifted with godly wisdom. Proverbs is largely a representation of this God-inspired wisdom. The form of teaching in Proverbs was common at that time, but the wisdom illustrated is unique, in that it teaches of a wisdom based on respect for God and His standards for people. David wrote many of the psalms as a form of worship, but his son Solomon, among other writers, wrote many proverbs to convey wisdom. Solomon begins the book of Proverbs with a high-level look at wisdom and living according to God’s truth and design. He stresses the importance of putting the right knowledge into practice and flooding our thoughts with God’s Word.
