River Valley Church SOAP - Part 10Sample

The writer contrasts a happy heart and a crushed spirit, a discerning heart and a mouth that feeds on foolishness. The outward appearance of a person's face reflects the innermost part of a person, their spirit and heart. To have a heartache or a broken heart may be someone who has been whipped or flogged, resulting in depression because of a lack of energy and strength. A discerning person’s heart can be differentiated by their heart being bent toward stratification found in knowledge, not in personal opinions. Feeding on foolishness can be linked back to one's mouth, and the mouth is identified for eating in this book. The fool is metaphorically corrupt for speaking about the foolishness of society. Chapter 16 concludes with the finality of decisions that we make. The point is that God is the final arbiter of the future. We as humans may attempt to figure out the future, but ultimately God is the one who determines it.
