We continue to explore wisdom for living in these two chapters. It’s important to remember that much of Proverbs is a commentary on themes that are happening in other parts of the Old Testament, namely the first five books (or the Torah). An example of this is Chapter 21 verse 3, where it’s said that “to do righteousness and justice is desired by the Lord more than sacrifice.” The theme of “doing righteousness and justice” is picked up right from Genesis chapter 18, where God says that He picked Abraham and his household to be His chosen family so that they will do righteousness and justice. We see the theme repeated here, and Proverbs’ author wants us to think back to reading Genesis when we come across it. This theme will also be expanded in other ways as we continue to read through Proverbs.
