Week Five - Day One - Through every trial

Welcome to our Time to Shine devotional!  As we journey together through this devotional, we pray it will help our kids to understand that God is light.  He has given us His spirit to help us navigate through the darkness, just like a lighthouse helps ships to navigate dangerous waters, God’s light helps us to navigate this life.  We find His light in His word, in His people and in His presence.  Through well known Bible Stories we want our kids to know that the darkness cannot overpower God’s light!  

READ:

‘Earthquake in Prison’ in the Beginners Bible (pages 500 - 503) or in Acts 16:24-34.

Paul and Silas were friends with Jesus. They travelled a long way to tell everyone that they met about how amazing Jesus is!

Sometimes,  we may think that we can’t tell others about Jesus!  We may think people don’t want to know or will not want to listen?  But it is all okay because God is always with us and will help us find the words and be brave.  

When we tell others about how wonderful Jesus is, we can shine His light into the world around us!

ASK:

Do you find it easy to tell your friends about Jesus?  Ask your big person how they tell others about Jesus. 

REMEMBER:

The Light shines in the darkness. And the darkness has not overpowered the Light. (John 1:5) 

SAY:

I can shine your light in the darkness, 

With your love and kindness.

We don't ever need to fear,

Because you are always near.

Your light is forever,

Overpowered by darkness?  Never!

We can trust in your light,

Shining so bright.

Leading us through even the darkest days, 

In your love and hope we will always stay.

In Jesus name, Amen.
