Week Five - Day Five - Through every trial

Welcome to our Time to Shine devotional!  As we journey together through this devotional, we pray it will help our kids to understand that God is light.  He has given us His spirit to help us navigate through the darkness, just like a lighthouse helps ships to navigate dangerous waters, God’s light helps us to navigate this life.  We find His light in His word, in His people and in His presence.  Through well known Bible Stories we want our kids to know that the darkness cannot overpower God’s light!  

READ:

‘Earthquake in Prison’ in the Beginners Bible (pages 500 - 503) or in Acts 16:24-34.

When the guard was scared and worried about what was going on around him, Paul was able to help Him. 

He told the guard not to be worried. The guard was amazed that the men were still safe in the prison!

The Earthquake was all part of God’s plan, He wanted to give Paul and Silas an opportunity to tell the Guard all about Him.  When we tell others about God it's like shining a light for others to see God. 

ASK:

Try shining flashlight into a dark room, can you see how the light makes the darkness go away?  This is what happens when we tell others about Jesus - it helps them to see Him more clearly. 

REMEMBER:

The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overpowered the Light (John 1:5) 

SAY:

I can shine your light in the darkness, 

With your love and kindness.

We don't ever need to fear,

Because you are always near.

Your light is forever,

Overpowered by darkness?  Never!

We can trust in your light,

Shining so bright.

Leading us through even the darkest days, 

In your love and hope we will always stay.

In Jesus name, Amen.
