Week Five - Day Seven - Through every trial

Welcome to our Time to Shine devotional!  As we journey together through this devotional, we pray it will help our kids to understand that God is light.  He has given us His spirit to help us navigate through the darkness, just like a lighthouse helps ships navigate dangerous waters, God’s light helps us to navigate this life.  We find His light in His word, in His people and in His presence.  Through well known Bible Stories we want our kids to know that the darkness cannot overpower God’s light!

‘Earthquake in Prison’ in the Beginners Bible (Pages 500-503) or in Acts 16:24-34.

Jesus is the light of the world - in the Bible in John 8:12 it tells us;

Later, Jesus talked to the people again. He said, “I am the light of the world. The person who follows me will never live in darkness. He will have the light that gives life.”

When we hear about Jesus and decide that we want to follow Him and become a Christian, it is like switching on a light bulb, the darkness is gone and the light gives us life! 

ASK:

Sometimes our world can feel a bit dark and unfriendly-when we are sad, when we are angry, if we don't understand-but Jesus is the light of the world.  So if you feel like it's a dark day, talk to Jesus because He is the light and then share this with your big person. 

REMEMBER: 

The Light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overpowered the Light (John 1:5) 

SAY:

I can shine your light in the darkness, 

With your love and kindness.

We dont ever need to fear,

Because you are always near.

Your light is forever,

Overpowered by darkness?  Never!

We can trust in your light,

Shining so bright.

Leading us through even the darkest days, 

In your love and hope we will always stay.

In Jesus name, Amen.
