Paul appeals to the followers of Christ to voluntarily submit to governing authorities, to understand that these authorities have been appointed by God and should one rebel, they only end up bringing judgment upon their own lives. Secondly, a personal reason Paul encourages people to submit is that we escape the fear of them by obeying their instructions and encourages people that the one in authority is God's servant.  In Chapter 14, believers are challenged on how they judge one another according to their diet.  For Jewish people eating meat was a sacred issue.  Paul does not spend time on what is right or wrong, or what is the right food to eat, but the importance of how we treat one another and our motive toward eating and drinking.  

Global Prayer Focus:
Today, Jordan is experiencing a time of religious freedom, but the enemy is pressing in and challenging that with the country's Muslim majority. Let's pray that this freedom would continue despite the pressure and that people would come to know Jesus through the radiant spirituality of believers.
