Devotions From John's Gospel

DAY 5 OF 17

Jesus showed love and wanted to redeem Judas, but he walked away. Jesus turns His self-giving love towards laying down His life for us in obedience to the Father. This is an occasion for a mutual glorification of the Son and the Father. Jesus had earlier (12:23,24) compared His death to the glory of the dying seed. It is also the time for Jesus to bid farewell to His disciples. He speaks to the “little children” with the tenderness of a mother.  He tells them the same message He told the Jews earlier in 7:33-34 about going away in a little while where they cannot come. But He leaves His disciples a lovely ray of hope of finding Him by withholding the phrase “You will not find me” which he told the Jews.

Dear sister, brother! What would be your response to Jesus if He told you, “I am going; you cannot follow me?”

Would you hold on to Jesus for yourself or let Him go for the benefit of the whole world?

Can you feel a mother’s “goodbye kiss” when she calls you, “little child”?

Prayer

My beloved Jesus, I feel your tenderness and love. I understand your commitment to glory by dying. I am happy to be part of your glory; you gave me eternal life by your dying.

Jesus might say…..

My child, You are certainly the crown of my glory and the joy of my heart. Walk with me to capture the glory of selfless living.
