11 1/2 Questions To Help You Date Without Regrets

DAY 2 OF 7

The longer a person is single the more frequently they seem to ask the questions found in Psalm 13:1-2:

“O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever?
How long will you look the other way?
How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul,
with sorrow in my heart every day?”

In short, you feel stuck. I get it! I didn’t get married until I was 28, and it felt like I had waited FOREVER as my friends got married one by one. Feeling stuck in a season of singleness can be one of the most frustrating seasons of life, but it doesn’t have to be! If you allow yourself to get so focused on your frustration in dating, you’ll never be able to see the blessings found in waiting.

So many singles would love to hear God say, “You will meet your future spouse in five months.” Knowing that would take all pressure off the situation. However, we are not given a timeline from God, but a command: Wait.

Over and over again, the Bible gives us insight into waiting:

- Psalm 5:3 tells us we can wait with expectation.
- Psalm 27:14 tells us to be brave and courageous as we wait. It can be so challenging to wait in a world that is always in a hurry!
- In Psalm 40:1, the author tells us there was a time he had to wait on God, but he waited patiently and was heard.
- And, in Psalm 62:5, the writer says he will allow all that he is to wait on God, and his hope is in God.

Waiting probably isn’t your favorite thing in the world. However, waiting is often the way the Lord shapes and molds us. He wants to prepare us for what He ultimately wants to bless us with, and He wants to remind us that He works best in His time, not ours.

It really is OK to be single! Instead of just sitting around complaining about it, live your life! Develop deep friendships, create memories, allow Jesus to shape your heart and mind, travel, meet new people, laugh a lot, and try new things. Experiences like this are never wasted! And whenever you do meet your future spouse, you'll actually have things to talk about with them.
