Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "First Things First"

DAY 5 OF 31

In everyday life, we often receive news from friends or relatives. Be it good or bad news. For example, the loss of a family member, facing adversities, an incurable disease, and many more.

What should we do as good friends when they are in trouble? Praying goes on top of the list. But, what other things we can do to show our love through action?

Sending a short message, calling them up, sending food and other necessities, supporting them with encouraging and comforting words, and even being there when they need us – these are a few examples of the things that we can do.

We don’t have to wait until we can help extravagantly. Start small. Start simple. We don’t know how impactful our seemingly simple action can be to others.

Devotion for Parents
The harshness of life can be blinding. It makes us forget how to empathize and to show our love in action.

“How can I think of others when I am bombarded with my problems?” – that’s what they say.

However, do you know that when we show empathy, our burden lessens? Give and you shall receive, although it may not be in the same form. That’s the promise of God for us.

Let’s learn to see what lies outside our border. When we realize that life goes beyond ourselves, then we can say that what we are facing may not be as hard as we think it is.

Devotion for Kids
Try to remember if there is a friend or a family member who is feeling sad right now? Maybe there’s an illness in the family, or he/she is having problems.

What can you do to comfort them? You can call them up. You can invite them for a playdate. You can also share your toys with them.

The most important part is to start doing it. Just do what you can do.

Family Devotion Time
Make a list of the people you know who are having problems.

What can you do to show your love for them?
