Love and Forgiveness

Love and forgiveness are a couple of besties. They barely ever leave one another’s side. Need forgiveness? Love’s right there. Love going out for the day? Forgiveness is going along for the ride.

So when it comes to someone who does you wrong—would love allow you to give them a payback? You know, an eye for an eye, a taste of their own medicine, and all that vengeful stuff. Is love cool with that?

And he made some awesome points. When love is wronged, it forgives. Think of how many things you’ve done wrong in your life. How many of those things does God forgive? Yeah. All of them. The moment you ask, He forgives!

Even when Jesus was on the cross, He asked God to forgive the very people who were hurting Him saying, “They don’t know what they’re doing.” If Jesus can forgive us, we can forgive others.

There’s just no point to holding on to bitter grudges. Let them go and let love win. Always!

Important note: Remember, if you’re being hurt, are in a dangerous situation, or are being bullied, it’s important to get help from a trusted adult right away. Put down this Bible Plan and reach out immediately. They will help to make sure you are safe first. Then, they can help you work on letting go and forgiving.

Ask yourself: What’s something that’s hard for me to forgive? In other words, what’s a “wrong” someone did that I just can’t let go? (Again, if this is about something that has hurt you deeply or physically, you should speak to a trusted adult about it right away if you haven’t already.)

Challenge yourself: Write down the thing you’re having a hard time forgiving. Pray the prayer below, then rip up the paper into as many pieces as you can. Take the pieces to the trash right away. Allow God’s love to help you forgive and move on.

Pray: God, thank You that Your love doesn’t keep a record of wrongs. My mind does remember wrongs. And when I think of them, I can get upset again. Help me to forgive so I’m not angered or upset any longer. Help me to let go. Help me to forgive the way You do. In Jesus’ name, amen.
